IDEAL has boosted production of its Level 5 ‘top secret or classified’ category shredding machines as a result of world demand, particularly from the US. Level 5 (0.8x12mm cross/cut) versions of the IDEAL 2350, 2602 and the 4003 will be available in the new year.
Managing director Dick Reynolds says: "When the Pentagon specified Level 6 and approved IDEAL machines for the destruction of documents in many US government offices and military establishments, it was thought that they would supersede Level 5, so production of these machines was being phased out. But end users have found that, if their office is handling less sensitive documents, it is more efficient to have a Level 5 shredder because of it’s greater capacity. Level 6 machines are necessarily more restricted in capacity because they have to reduce paper to very fine particles measuring 0.8x5mm, and it has not yet been possible to make a heavy duty model at a realistic price."
