Spicers’ managing director Graeme Loudain has described the change to the company’s furniture distribution strategy announced last week as ‘very, very significant’ (see channelinfo.net 7/6/2001).
The company is to pull furniture out of the London RDCs and re-locate it to one dedicated Furniture Distribution Centre in Cambridge by September, freeing up valuable space for other product lines. Within a period of time, probably around 18 months, the same procedure will be rolled out nationally.
Graeme Loudain says the impact will be long lasting: “Dealers we have spoken to are very excited about this. We will be using the space created to stock the full product range at all locations, which means that complete orders will be supplied without inter-branch traffic that costs us money and costs our dealers money through additional paper work and time wasted.”
The company has said it will not expand the service until it is confident it has the infrastructure to do so.
