Reorganisation at Sanyo sees UK become European head office
Sanyo Information Systems UK Ltd has changed the name of its European dictation business to Sanyo Speechtek following a restructuring at the company which has seen the UK office ear-marked as the company’s new European head office.
European general manager Graham Davies says the old name never really reflected what the business was about, the new name with its combination of speech and technology is a more accurate representation. He says the changes also reinforce the company’s faith in the dictation market.
“People think the dictation market is going away but we don’t believe that, our dictation sales for last year were up by £250,000. But the market is changing and it is our intention to embrace those changes and help dealers to develop their businesses with profitable results."
Sanyo has been operating in the UK for the past 30 years with Sanyo Europe split into two divisions selling consumer electronics and LCD projectors and the dictation business trading under the Sanyo Information Systems name. It turns over around £6 million in the UK. The restructuring means the UK company has been given the responsibility for implementing a pan-European distribution strategy and developing export partners. Davis says the UK was chosen as the new HQ because it was recognised as the ‘centre of excellence’ for this product category.
“We have always done well in Europe but our distribution policy was somewhat fragmented. This doesn’t mean we will be taking the focus off the UK, the UK is our biggest market, but we want to ensure that all of our European customers are getting the same level of service that they enjoy in the UK. I don’t believe that was necessarily the case in the past.”
