Interactive Products, the company that created the Progress back office system and now a subsidiary of ECI2, marked its 20th anniversary with the launch of new Progress, the long-awaited Windows-based version at its 2004 Progress User Day. After what was described as an 'extremely difficult episode in the company's history, managing director Ron Wotherspoon said there was now an end to any uncertainty about the future. A group of early users have been successfully trialling the new product and they will get enhancements to these and the remaining facilities by the end of the year.
As of January 2005 Progress will be offered on a monthly fee basis payable by direct debit, with the fee related to the number of users and not any additional modules. The flat fee will represent an increase on what most users are currently paying but will cover everything including support, software licence, NPS updates and ecommerce hosting. "We have carefully compared our prices with alternatives on the market and we know that not only are they fair but they are extremely reasonable," says Wotherspoon.
