Hewlett Packard is to lay off up to 4,000 information technology contract workers for three weeks while it decides which service providers will go and which will stay. The move is expected to save the company $15-20 million in just three weeks. The company says the cuts will affect only North American contract workers who are described as ‘not essential to daily operations’, and are separate to the 15,000 job losses already announced.
