Korean prosecutors have raided one of the affiliate companies of the Samsung Group, one of South Korea's biggest companies, drawing the company into the widening investigation into illegal political donations by some of the country's biggest corporations.
Investigators seized documents from the offices of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, an electronic components manufacturer which is 24% by Samsung Electronics, the group's flagship company. The raid makes Samsung the latest South Korean group to be implicated in the scandal which has exposed corrupt financial ties between the country's business and political communities.
LG and SK, South Korea's second and third biggest conglomerates, are among the other companies suspected by prosecutors of funneling millions of dollars to politicians ahead of last December's presidential election.
