New research has found that only 67% of end users are familiar with the concept of ILM. According to research company Macarthur Stroud International, a pan-European study of end users carried out to determine what Information Lifecycle
Management (ILM) meant found very low levels of awareness.
ILM provides a framework by which a clear set of policies and practices
can be defined and implemented for a range of reasons, including sound information management to support the needs of
corporate governance. That encompasses
data protection and data movement policies and practices, securing transactions and setting policies for file deletion. Security of both the infrastructure and the data emerged as of paramount importance for organisations looking at an ILM strategy. End users
relying on traditional backup and disaster recovery procedures are keen
to maintain or improve security levels after implementing ILM.
