Sony has stated that Britain will not be affected by the 20,000 job cuts announced this week. The company has two manufacturing plants in Bridgend and Pencoed, South Wales, which employ 2,400 workers. Trade unions there said they had been reassured that there would be no job losses but called on Sony to make a statement to that effect.
The company employs 154,500 people worldwide, 4,500 of them are in the UK. The redundancies have been announced as part of a three-year plan to return to profitability.
